Heather's case, the COPD was attributed to childhood Whooping Cough, which left her lungs damaged. Currently, her lung function is 38% of 'normal' and is decreasing. She is Hypoxic. Hypoxia is simply a lack of oxygen in the body. Decreasing lung function is a normal product of the aging process; but most people will reach old age with a function at least double that of Heather's.
