The biggest orienteering technical challenge is to keep track of where you are in the low visibility native bush, because if you get lost it is normally going to take a while to figure out where you are as everything looks the same with streams, beech forest and a big slope everywhere. Even the second rounds competitions had lots of rain and together with the tough and challenging terrain the kilometre rates for the winners were more than double the ones from the Wellington Champs.
