primeira vez a prova de Distância Longa contou com séries de qualificação precedendo a grande final, figurino que se mantém até aos dias de hoje.Ao contrário de Fontainebleau, onde Finlândia e França repartiram entre si as vitórias, em Ballarat assistiu-se a uma divisão mais equitativa dos títulos em disputa. A austríaca Michaela Gigon e o australiano Adrian Jackson, actuais líderes do ?ranking? mundial, surgiram aqui em grande, arrecadando os primeiros títulos mundiais das suas carreiras ao vencerem a prova de Distância Média nos respectivos sectores.
