a primeira edição dos Campeonatos do Mundo de Orientação de Desporto Escolar. Realizados de dois em dois anos, os Campeonatos seguintes fizeram-se disputar em Arlon, Bélgica (1989), Kauhajoki, Finlândia (1991), Bütchenbach, Bélgica (1993), Polva, Estónia (1995) e Lurisa, Itália (1997), estes dois últimos já sob a égide da ISF ? International Sport School Federation.A primeira participação portuguesa teve lugar em Jurmala (Letónia), no ano de 1998, na 7ª edição dos Campeonatos. Portugal fez-se representar com duas equipas-escola, nos escalões H1/D1 (16-17 anos).
