trees, while the Google photo seems to have been taken at high noon, which is perfect. The Google one is on the left: I used OCAD to copy the contours and mark distinctive points on the map (mostly path junctions), and then I fitted sections from Google to create a basemap for the fieldwork. The contours arent that good either - theyre computer-drawn, and as our forests are evergreen the computer tends to miss anything under the tree cover. Ive even seen it draw a road as a gully! But thats what fieldwork is for.
