40 países, 4 continentes. São estes os números oficiais referentes ao WOC 2008. Para além de 30 federações europeias de Orientação, a lista estende-se à África do Sul, Austrália, Canadá, China, Estados Unidos, Formosa, Hong-Kong, Israel, Japão e Nova Zelândia.Uma média de 200 atletas competirá em cada disciplina. Assim, na Distância Média estão inscritos 202 participantes, enquanto o Sprint contará com 201 atletas e a prova de Distância Longa será disputada por 192 concorrentes.
