each of the three qual heats went to the A final - giving a total of 60 runners in the A-finals. In the mens class there were more than 60 runners in each qual heat - thus it was quite challenging to reach the A-final. To manage the cut, you had to be within about 5 minutes behind the heat winner in the mens heats, and within about 7 minutes in the womens heats.
