The temperature was perfect and the sun was shining on the runners under the skyscrapers in Houston, Texas today. Despite the wind I thought the conditions were there today. But the fellow runners were not. I started my race conservatively, hitting 537 on the first windy mile. From there on…

I started picking up the pace and came through 10K on pace to 2.17 in 3242 together with a Canadian runner, Jeremiah Ziak. At the halfway point the clocks showed 10914 for the two of us, so I was falling behind my goal pace. From here on I had to keep the fight up solely by myself as Ziak started fading. The next runners in front of me were minutes ahead. I was able to run 515-513-515 for the beautiful 17th-19th miles and I believed I could negative split in the race.
