Map of the Month

Despite its name, each “map of the month” is actually available for 2 consecutive months. Controls (usually 15-20, at TD4-5) are in place for all that time. September’s map of the month is Loch Vaa West; controls are out until 30 October. The area has been affected by forest fires…

(no jokes about crispy capercaillie please!) so vegetation is slightly different from what you’d expect. October’s map of the month (available until the end of November) is Inshriach North. Loch Vaa offers hours of fun and technical challenge, plus a few well-placed benches… You’ll notice that fire has altered the low vegetation in a couple of parts, so the mapped “open” bits aren’t obvious. Also look out for the wildlife - ticks are numerous and seem very hungry, and several homicidal spiders have set their tough traps at nose/mouth level. Park at NH936179.
