they finished with identical times. Both of the woman were from Finland, one being Heli Jukkola who visited New Zealand over summer for training with partner Tero Fohr. In the mens race, Canterburys Chris Forne finished off the pace in 31st place after battling with his ankle injury. The race was won by a huge margin of around 4 minutes by Switzerlands Matthias Merz. The race however did not feature two of the race favourites, with many competitors obtaining food poisoning amongst other things. Friday is a rest day, with Saturday and Sunday featuring the relay and sprint final.
