Last weekend I took part in three orienteering races - sprint on Friday, long distance on Saturday and middle distance on Sunday. All of them were held in Gesunda - downhill skiing center near Mora in Dalarna. The terrain was very nice but also a bit of surprise for me.…

It was rich in details such as small hills, depressions, reentrants, stones etc. I found the long distance course on Saturday very demanding and had some difficulties to find the controls. The scale of the long distance map was 1:15000. I would definitely prefer to use 1:10000 for this kind of terrain. When I tried to find out why my performance on Saturday was so poor, I figured out that the scale could be the one to "blame". When it is difficult to see the details while running, I do not read the map properly and take bigger risks. Perhaps…
