French team for WOC 2006
The best runer in the French Team is no doubt Thierry Gueorgiou, who has been unbeatable in middle distance finals in the championships the last years. He shocked the Orienteering World by winning the middle distance in WOC 2003 in Switzerland with almost three minutes - and has continued impressing everybody since then with his excellent orienteering technique.Thierry G. running towards victory at WOC 2005, middle distance final. Relay running for Gold!
Thierry
(result history)
has raised the standard of french orienteering - and from being an unimportant
orienteering nation some years ago, the french team is now one of the favourites
for the WOC gold medal. In last years WOC relay in Japan,
Jørgen Rostrup just managed to beat Thierry in the last part of the
relay after following in his footsteps most of the way. This year, Rostrup
is not in the Norwegian Team - can the french do it this year?
Other strong runners
The other strong runners in the french team are
Damien Renard
(Result history)
who got a very good 4th place at the EOC in Estonia at the middle distance
this spring
and François Gonon
(result history)
who managed a second place in last years World Cup final in Italy at
the long distance.
In addition, there is
Phillippe Adamski
(result history)
with silver and bronze in last years JWOC in Switzerland
The French women are not that strong - the best here is
Céline Dodin
(result history)
who has a 13th place from the WOC sprint in 2003 as her best result.
