Bulgaria team for WOC 2006

The Bulgaria WOC 2006 Team consists of 9 runners. Iliana Shandurkova is the best on the World Ranking in the team with a 41st position. Iliana had significant improvements after her stay as Au-pair in Norway last year, and did three very good races in WOC in Japan last year (20th place sprint, 22nd place middle and 31st place long). This year her results have not been that good due less time for training, but she is now well prepared for the WOC in Denmark - and especially at the sprint distance she will fight for a position in the top 15.

From highjumping to top orienteering
Even if Iliana is ranked higher on the World Ranking, Kiril Nikolov is the biggest star in the Bulgarian team - with a 12th place on the sprint in WOC 2003 as his best performance. Previously doing high-jumping - he now has proved to be a very good relay runner for his club Store Tuna IK - coming in within the best 25 runners at the first leg at both Jukola 2005 and 2006, and also has several good Tiomila legs. His main goal for the 2006-season is the long distance in WOC in Denmark, where he hopes to significantly improve his 34. place from the long distance at EOC in Estland this spring.
