Jukola preparations

If you do not have Google Earth installed, you can see the map from above in 2D here - and indeed it looks hilly, as Thierry G. writes on his homepage; "I was quite pleased to see that the terrain of this Jukola 2006 will be quite challenging, both technically and physically due to some short but steep climbs that will probably hurt the legs. In this kind of terrain, there's no doubt that only the strongest team will survive."

Old Jukola maps
Hidden(?) on the Jukola-page, you can find maps from the Jukola competitions all the way back to 1949 including courses, and the event sites are also shown. Here you can see that the 1967 (black/white map), 1972 and 1993 competitions are not far from this years competition. I do not know how relevant the terrain is, but by studying maps, courses (and in some cases also route choices) from previous Jukola relays, you can get well prepared. If you are not running yourself, it is an excellent way to get in the Jukola-mood for a long night in front of the computer...
